The European Society for Textual Scholarship is to provide an international and interdisciplinary forum for the theory and practice of textual scholarship in Europe. It is being established in close collaboration with the Society for Textual Scholarship (North America), and will hold a major conference in each even-numbered year. The first conference will be held in The Hague in November 2002. The founding chair of the ESTS is Professor H. T. The Inaugural Colloquium: The Book in the 21st Century

This will be held in the Clephan Building, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, De Montfort University, Leicester, on Thursday and Friday 22 and 23 November 2001. Speakers will include:

In the closing session, Andreas Dress of the Department of Mathematics in the University of Bielefeld will give an outsider’s view of the state of textual scholarship, as it appears from the colloquium.

There is a conference charge of £15 to cover the cost of refreshments and lunch each day (£10 for a single day).
